“this is an album recorded live at the filmore east on june 1, 1968. on this recording you will find the usual fugs quota of atonal masochism, the usual wavering allegiance to the motherhood, the usual moral-less mumblings of weaver, sanders and kupferberg. in spite of this, there are redeeming qualities in this album. for one thing, it’s a splendid exercise in artistic freedom. for another, the fugs’ rendition of tuli kupferberg’s immortal masterpiece “nothing” on this record is a milestone in the reality of the last part of the twentieth century.

however, if you hesitate to hear about the cold fork of naked reality; if you hesitate to confront the fugs on a plateau of agonizing honesty, then you’d better flip this record back into the rack and go dig up some old monkee’s albums.
